SAHS Touchdown Club Trophy Recipient

~Twenty-one St. Aloysius football players were presented letters and jackets in school assembly yesterday for their part in giving St. Aloysius an undefeated football season. ~Miss Judy Hale was crowned St. Aloysius Homecoming Queen at Farrell Field here last night (Friday October 11, 1956) where the Flashes were host in a rival gridiron battle against the Natchez Cathedral Greenies. ~Receives S.F.X.A. Sportsmanship Trophy. Coach Peggy Swett is shown presenting the St. Francis Xavier Academy's basketball Sportsmanship Trophy to Shirley Farish, member of the team and a senior, at the annual banquet honoring the Blue Streaks. The event was held in the cafeteria of the O'Beirne gymnasium in Vicksburg on March 31.

SFXA Girls Are Champs

~Sure-Shot Shirley - One reason for St. Francis' success this season was its "Triple-S" attack by "Sure-Shot Shirley", meaning Shirley Farish and her seldom-missed charity tosses. During the regular season, Shirley averaged between 15 and 20 free pitches per game. In above photo is one of her shots ripping the basket to perfection. Action occurred in last nights championship battle against Redwood. Also against Hazel Walker last night in a free throwing exhibition at City Auditorium, Shirley made good on 14 out of 15 yet got beat as Hazel had 15 for 15.

"Speedy" Puts On A Show

~Comfortably ahead in the late stages of the girls' country championship game at Redwood last night, little Katherine "Speedy" Meyer put on a razzle-dazzle dribble exhibition that had Redwood's girls going around in circles. St. Francis won 59-43 to become the new girls' champs.

Give Me That Ball!

~Katherine Meyer, who according to the Redwood girls, was slippery as an eel, goes sliding across the floor for the loose rolling ball in last night's championship game at Redwood, MS. Meyer not only was in on nearly every play but she was the high scorer also with 28 points. Way to go Katherine!

~These St. Francis Xavier Academy cagers are overflowing with joy - they had just defeated Redwood 59-43 for the Warren County girls' basketball championship a few seconds before picture was made. ~In the 10 grade I was in involved in the JUG, which stood for "Just Us Girls." It was made up of inter-media teams playing basketball and volleyball together. This was the name we chose to use.

~FLASHES-CHEERLEADERS AWARDED - St. Aloysius put beautiful Christmas wraps on a underfeated, untied season at the Flashes annual grid banquet last night when deserving members of the team were richly rewarded for their meritorius achievement. ~CROWNING CEREMONY - Miss Myrtle Loviza, 1959 graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy, led the crowning ceremonies at St. Paul's Catholic Church Friday.

Report Card

~ Somehow, I was able to hang on to my first grade report card through the years. This is a keepsake for sure! My first grade teacher was Sister Mary Cyrena and the Principal was Sister Mary Callista.
