Class of 1959

We, the Class of 1959, celebrated our 50th reunion on April 24 and 25, 2009. This blog is about sharing memories of our class reunions and a long-ago life at our Alma Mater, S.F.X.A. and S.A.H.S. Good memories of days gone by but not forgotten! A gift to my classmates. ~Marian Ann Love ~

Classics @ Our Old Alma Mater & Pix

The 8th Annual "Classics in the Courtyard" started last Friday at the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation, formally S.F.X.A.  This coming Friday will be Classics Blues, Rock, Pop and Originals performed by Patrick Smith Band; lunch provided by Palmertree Catering.  On Friday, November 6, it will be Classics Pop and Country performed by Maria Signa & Ralph Miller; lunch provided by Martin's at Midtown.  It is always great to come back home to my Alma Mater.  It brings back a flood of happy and long-ago memories for me of 12 years in one whole city block.

Looking towards the right...

...and left on the top court.

The Classic Blues, Rock and Originals was performed by Lee H. Abraham & the Boone Brothers with lunch provided by Goldie's Express.

The old grammar school bathroom that's in need of repair.

Pictures of some familiar scenes of our former S.F.X.A.

Bottom court is a parking lot now.

The O'Beirne Gymnasium

The old incinerator collapsing.

Lots of writing on the walls in the tunnels.

I noticed a wooden brace in place midway.

Our old sewing room on left and cafeteria on right.

Side gate going towards Crawford St. entrance.

Mercy sign above the doorway.

Easier to walk on with half-paved sidewalk and the other half of the old bricks.

The big playground as it looks today.

I can close my eyes and hear all of us running to class, or playing on the playground all those years ago. Thanks for sharing these pictures of St. Francis and thanks for the memories....

I know the feeling Betty Gail. Do you remember the maypole dances on the bottom court? Remember the grotto of the Blessed Mother that was where the Gym is now with a big oak tree and we used to play hop scotch there as well. I will try and get some photos of the inside of our school when I go back this Friday for another Classic in the Courtyard. At least our school has not been abandoned and being used. Missing the nuns who taught us all those years. May they all rest in peace.
