Class of 1959

We, the Class of 1959, celebrated our 50th reunion on April 24 and 25, 2009. This blog is about sharing memories of our class reunions and a long-ago life at our Alma Mater, S.F.X.A. and S.A.H.S. Good memories of days gone by but not forgotten! A gift to my classmates. ~Marian Ann Love ~

Guidance

Classmates: Thought this was very important to post...

Hey guys ... I am forwarding you an email from Patty Mekus, which is self-explanatory. It's a really good project, and one that is important given the upcoming celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Sisters of Mercy in Vicksburg marking the beginning of Catholic education in our home town, from which we all benefited. In my response to Patty's email, I suggested she start a fund and open an account to be earmarked for the two statues in question and any other statues promoting Catholic education, that would enhance the schools.

I see this as a wonderful opportunity for each of us to make a small contribution for a lasting legacy that would impact countless young people long after we are gone. I have covered the classes of 1960 in this email, but for you others, if you could pass this on to some of your classmates, maybe we could raise enough money to purchase the statues of Sr. Francis Xavier and St. Aloysius Gonzaga before the upcoming celebration in October. If you are moved to do so, please send Patty Mekus your check made out to St. Francis / St. Aloysius and note on it "For purchase of statues". You can be assured that your generosity, no matter how large or how small ($5.00 or $10.00), will be enjoyed and appreciated by generations to come.

Thank you.

Forward email:

Hi Pat!

I wanted to email you for a little guidance if you don't mind. Remember awhile back you had inquired about our statues at the school? We have several that are in need of repair, or replacing, and today at the 150th Anniversary Committee Meeting, we discussed trying to find life size statues of St. Francis Xavier and St. Aloysius Gonzaga for our outdoor garden between the two schools. Mike Jones has been working on this for some time too. I have priced a few and the links are below. The 150th celebration will hopefully eliminate quite a bit of debt the school has, and we may not have enough left over to purchase the statues. I was wondering if you would help in getting the word out that we are need of these statues, and maybe a class or several would consider helping us purchase them. We would really like to have them in time for the Mega Reunion Week-end of October 29 & 30th but that may not be realistic. Again, I am just throwing some ideas out there and looking for some guidance.

Thanks for your help!!

Patty
