Class of 1959

We, the Class of 1959, celebrated our 50th reunion on April 24 and 25, 2009. This blog is about sharing memories of our class reunions and a long-ago life at our Alma Mater, S.F.X.A. and S.A.H.S. Good memories of days gone by but not forgotten! A gift to my classmates. ~Marian Ann Love ~

Class Reunion - Has This Happened To You?

Hello Marian,
You know dear friend this has not happened to me. All of my classmates are endearing, conscious and beautiful (particularly the women).
Of course my perspective is colored by the distance of almost two thousand miles and over 60 years now. While I miss everyone and I do mean everyone, time and distance has allowed me to see just how unique and valuable everyone is. Politics aside (yes I'm in learning mode here) I think our class at the Saints Aloysius and Xavier spanned a time period during the late Forties and Fifties when conditions in the USA were such that few of us were touched by war or disaster (the tornado was an exception) or poverty. The War was over; Truman and Eisenhower were Presidents. Roosevelt had left the New Deal in place and we had relative economic prosperity. We also had the the G.I. Bill which sent so many to college.
G.I. Bill and FHA brought low interest housing to millions. Civics was still taught in the schools and the rules were mostly adhered to uniformly. We as a class were very fortunate and I am so grateful for that. So in retrospect It was a sort of golden era we lived through. My guess is that these better conditions of our growing up set us up for a more productive and conscientious lives. My hope going forward is that all of the current generation will benefit from our generation's awareness of what makes for productive and conscientious citizenry.
Oops, I did not really mean for this to be a opinion screed or to be political. Nevertheless, I feel our class has produced some really good folk and even if we have a few wrinkles, have gained a pound or two and been less than perfect on occasion, I am glad for who we are.

May we all be loved for who we are, Jack Baker

P.S.: Marian and anyone who would like to communicate. A better way to reach me is at my new email: jacksbox77@gmail.com

Just want to say I enjoyed Jack’s comments about our class. We girls have expressed some of the same sentiments many times and agree we are blessed.

Thanks Marian for all you do. What a great way to stay in touch.

Thanks, Marian for all you do to keep us in touch. Jack, you said it all. I do consider our class special and we shared a special time in history and at St Francis and St Al. Looking forward to seeing all of you all at our next reunion or before, if possible.

Sue
