Class of 1959

We, the Class of 1959, celebrated our 50th reunion on April 24 and 25, 2009. This blog is about sharing memories of our class reunions and a long-ago life at our Alma Mater, S.F.X.A. and S.A.H.S. Good memories of days gone by but not forgotten! A gift to my classmates. ~Marian Ann Love ~

50th Class Reunion ~ Frances

~1958~
Frances Jane Powell
After graduation Frances attended MSCW in Columbus, MS. She received a MA degree from California State, Long Beach, CA; Ed.D from USC. Over the years she has worked for St. Joseph's Hospital in Memphis, TN; Biloxi City Schools; Ft. Benning Dependents Schools; Temple City Unified School District; Huntington Beach Union H.S. District, 6; Pasadena United School District and Mt. St. Mary's College in Los Angeles, CA. She is retired from Pasadena Unified School District, Pasadena, CA and Mt. St. Mary's College in Los Angeles, CA. She now enjoys cooking, gardening, exercising, playing Bunko and poker. She loves to travel especially on cruises. She also has spent 46 days on a photo Safari to East Africa and tracked gorilla's in Rawanda in 1985.
Her favorite teachers was Sister Mary Grace because she was strict but fair and got her interested in science teaching which is what she has done most of her professional career. Some of her favorite memories are piano lessons and recitals; performing in her play, "Ghost in The Glass,"; she was sent home by Sister Callista (Principal) when some of us girls wore crinoline's under our a-frame uniforms skirts so our skirts looked like Christmas Trees; meeting our girl friends after children's mass at the Vicksburg Hotel's Drug Store for cherry phosphates; and playing poker and listening to 45's on Becky Bell's front porch for hours. A few things about her and her life is that she has had a successful career in education; co-authored educational materials; ghost writer for children's books and have wonderful friends. She is close to her family; has had a heart transplant and a stroke; she volunteers to help cardiac patients and loves digital photography. Frances resides in Sierra Madre, CA.
